Rodriguez preps Dusk Till Dawn series

Robert Rodriguez’s fledgling El Rey Network is partnering with Univision and planning a TV version of From Dusk Till Dawn.

English-language Hispanic channel El Rey is due to launch via Comcast in December as a joint venture between Rodriguez and FactoryMade Ventures.

Spanish-language broadcaster Univision has now invested in the venture and will partner with it on sales, distribution and back-office functions.

Rodriguez, known for the Sin City and Spy Kids movie franchises, announced at the Upfronts in New York yesterday that one of his network’s first shows will be a TV version of feature film From Dusk Till Dawn, which he created with Quentin Tarantino.

El Rey has also brought former Hearst exec Scott Sassa on board as vice chairman. Sassa left his job as president of Hearst Entertainment and Syndication earlier this year.

Rodriguez’s production company Tres Pistoleros Studios has already agreed a pact with Reliance-backed Georgeville Television to work together over the next three years on at least six 13-episode drama series with budgets exceeding US$3m per episode for El Rey.
