Ripper Street heads to Norway, Canada

Broadcasters in Norway and Canada will walk down Ripper Street after BBC Worldwide (BBCWW) secured more pre-sales for its 19th Century crime drama.

Space in Canada and Norway’s NRK have picked up the eight-part series ahead of its international launch at Mipcom next month.

Ripper Street, written by Richard Warlow (Waking the Dead), is set in London’s East End in 1889 and focuses on a police division charged with keeping order in the aftermath of the Jack the Ripper murders.

Tiger Aspect Productions and Lookout Point produce the series for BBC1.

It has previously been bought by Network Ten in Australia and BBC America.

BBCWW is heading to Cannes next month with a drama slate that also includes Jane Campion’s six-part mystery Top of the Lake; The Paradise (8×50′); Spies of Warsaw (2×90′); and A Young Doctor’s Notebook.

Returning series include season seven of Doctor Who and season four of Misfits.
