Reel One unwraps Team Chocolate for UK

Canadian producer and distributor Reel One Entertainment has secured the UK format rights to a Belgian drama series that tells the story of a man with Down Syndrome.

Team Chocolate (Tytgat Chocolat) was originally produced by De Mensen and aired on Belgian pubcaster VRT in September. It is distributed by Wild Bunch TV.

The UK version will see Reel One link up with London theatre company Chickenshed to adapt the programme with a local writer to be attached.

Team Chocolate is a part love story, part comedy road trip which sees a man travel across Europe to be reunited with his partner.

The Flemish-language version was named best drama series at the first Diversify TV Excellence Awards at Mipcom in October and also won the Prix Europa in 2017 for best European Fiction Series.

Other Reel One series in development include a sci-fi show based on the Philip K Dick novella Second Variety and several primetime crime procedurals.

The Canadian company, which is based in Montreal but has a London office, will begin pitching Team Chocolate to UK broadcasters in the coming weeks.
