Rare TV names Zeff development head

UK factual indie Rare TV has promoted Susannah Zeff to head of UK development.

Susannah Zeff

Zeff originally joined the London-based prodco as a senior development producer, a position she held for nearly a decade.

At Rare TV, she has created, developed and pitched programmes including Chitty Flies Again for Channel 4, The Nile: Egypt’s Great River with Bettany Hughes for Channel 5 and Contagion: The BBC Four Pandemic for BBC4.

Prior to that, she worked as a development producer for BBC Science, BBC Specialist Factual, Impossible Pictures and Mentorn developing series including Blitz Street with Tony Robinson for Channel 4 and Dangerous Adventures for Boys with Vic Reeves for Channel 5.

In other Rare TV news, UK terrestrial Channel 5’s sister channel 5Star has commissioned true crime series Body of Evidence (working title).

The 6×60’ series examines gripping UK murder investigations that ran cold, only to be cracked years later by dedicated detectives determined to catch the killers.

The series will be represented internationally by Paul Heaney’s distribution and development firm BossaNova Media.

Rory Wheeler, creative director UK for Rare TV, said: “Rare TV is expanding its factual output to include true crime and Body of Evidence is a bold re-imagining of the genre and one in which we take great pride. We enable the viewer to step through the timeline of some of the UK’s most complex murder cases, while showing how dogged determination by the police and the victims’ families can eventually uncover evidence that stops evil in its tracks, no matter how long the wait.”
