Rare TV brings in Zig Zag Productions’ Chris Sanders for international development

UK factual and formats indie Rare TV has appointed Chris Sanders to the role of development producer, specialising in international projects.

Sanders will report to Rare TV’s VP of US development Christian Broadhurst and target US and international streamers and broadcasters.

He joins Rare TV from fellow UK indie Zig Zag Productions, where he served as assistant producer and senior development executive.

Sanders was also one of the inaugural winners of The David Lyle Foundation annual scholarship programme, which helps promising young executives to build successful careers in the international television business.

Rare TV is currently developing an international version of its Digging For… format, which is fronted by historian and presenter Alice Roberts in the UK, with an as-yet-unnamed international broadcaster.

Digging For Britain is about to enter its ninth season on BBC Two in the UK and follows the discovery of significant archaeological finds from digs around the country.

The company has also been commissioned to make a 15-part BBC daytime series called Expert Witness, set to air this autumn on BBC One in the mornings.

The series, produced from Belfast, will explore the inside stories of how expert witnesses helped solve some of the UK’s most complex major crime cases, using forensic science to reveal the hidden clues criminals leave behind.

Rare TV CEO Alexander Gardiner said: “Our new developed format Digging For… will allow us to bring over a decade of expertise and resource to platforms and broadcasters in other territories that can then uncover their own national historical treasures.”
