The two companies are in negotiations with Sylvester Stallone about joining the project, either on a creative level or on-screen.

Stallone played troubled Vietnam War veteran John Rambo in the original three films between 1982 and 1988 and the fourth instalment in 2008, and could yet reprise his role on the small screen.

Nu Image and eOne will collectively develop the series and shop it to broadcasters in the US and internationally. The Canuck firm will handle the international rights to the series across all platforms.

Executive producers will include John Morayniss (Klondike, Rogue) for eOne and Lerner for Nu Image.

Morayniss said: “The ability to fuse the big screen and the small screen through Avi’s feature film expertise and eOne’s domestic production capabilities and international distribution infrastructure makes for a highly complementary partnership.”

The original films were based on David Morell’s novel First Blood.
