Rainmaker gets ready for Bone Season

London-based distributor Rainmaker Content has added forthcoming fantasy thriller The Bone Season, based on the book series of the same name, to its slate.

Samantha Shannon

Written by Samantha Shannon during her degree at Oxford University, The Bone Season is a 2059-set story about a young woman torn between self-preservation and compassion, who must decide if she can lead a war of justice and place her trust in someone she despises.

The 8×60’ drama adaptation is being produced by Harriet Hammond of Little Hat Productions and executive produced by Hammond and Victor Glynn of GCB Films.

Scottish writer IR Bell-Webb, who is being mentored by Russell T Davies (Years & Years, It’s a Sin) as part of the the British Film Institute’s Flare scheme, is writing the script, with input from Shannon.

Vicky Ryan, co-founder and chief operating officer at Rainmaker Content, said: “This is an exceptional and engaging narrative with a rich quality – combining the scope and characterisation of epic fantasy with the peril and moral predicaments of a dystopian drama.”
