Rai 2, Banijay Italia step into The Unknown with adventure game format

Italy’s Rai 2 has commissioned a local version of adventure game format The Unknown – To The Very Last Crossroads, produced by Banijay Italia.

The deal was negotiated with All3Media International, who manage the global format rights for The Unknown. The project is carried out in partnership with the Regione Calabria and the Calabria Film Commission, within the framework of the agreement with Rai Com.

Originally created by Holland’s IDTV, part of All3Media, the format sees two teams of well-known personalities and non-celebrity contestants challenged to choose between the known and the unknown, with each decision carrying risk or reward.

In the Italian adaptation, hosts Elettra Lamborghini and Gianluca Fubelli (Scintilla) guide players as they face physical and mental challenges that test their resilience, adaptability and ability to work as a team.

The cast includes Costanza Caracciolo, Emanuela Folliero, Alessandro Matri, Francesca Manzini, Soleil Sorge and Pino Strabioli, competing against Christian Calenda, Noemi Cassaro, Lorenzo “Mc” Drago, Laura Pranzetti Lombardini, Gabriele Pagliarani and Ivan Zucco.

Banijay Italia is home to a slate of titles which includes reality shows L’Isola dei Famosi, Il Collegio and Pechino Express; game shows L’Eredità, and Sarabanda; cooking shows 4 Ristoranti, Bake Off Italia, Celebrity Chef and Foodish; cooking travelogue Dinner Club; comedy titles GialappaShow and Comedy Match; dating reality Love is Blind; and documentary series Unica, The Ferragnez and Ilary.
