Racism in sport comes under the spotlight as ABC’s End Game begins global production

Production has commenced on Australia’s ABC-commissioned factual series End Game from coproducers Smashing Films, Barking Mad Productions and Bacon Factory Films.

The three-part series is being filmed in Western Australia, with the production team filming across Melbourne, Sydney, London, Manchester, Liverpool and various locations across the US. Hosted by ABC journalist and former professional Australian rules footballer Tony Armstrong, the series attempts to source long-term solutions to combat the rising tide of racism in Australian sports.

Speaking at the AIDC conference in Melbourne this week, ABC’s head of documentary and specialist, Susie Jones said the series is “a project that you will see the whole weight of the ABC get behind, once it is broadcast.”

Describing the series as a “national conversation starter”, Jones said the series will also be supported by an impact campaign to “broaden the conversation.”

“Racist behaviour in Australia impacts everyone, and our sporting heroes are no exception. End Game will not only shed light on this dark place but offer pragmatic solutions so we can all make steps toward real change in our society. ABC is excited to be part of Tony’s groundbreaking journey of discovery, and we can’t wait to share it with our audience.” said Kelrick Martin, ABC’s head of indigenous.

Premiering on the ABC later this year, End Game is represented internationally by ABC Commercial.
