Rabbit Films bounds off with Nordic adventure format Camp North from Fremantle Finland

Adventure reality format Camp North

Finland-based formats distributor Rabbit Films has secured global rights to Camp North, an adventure reality format currently airing in a primetime slot on Nelonen Finland.

Known locally as Suuri seikkailu, the 10×90′ show is produced by Fremantle Finland and set against the cinematic landscapes of Finnish Lapland.

It follows 16 celebrities in a high-intensity competition that combines physical endurance, social strategy and psychological gameplay in a demanding wilderness environment.

Filmed over four weeks, the format sees contestants living in primitive conditions without modern comforts, relying on resilience, adaptability and survival skills to remain in the game.

Originally launched in Finland in 2001, Camp North returned in 2024 as a major primetime event, re-establishing the format as one of the country’s most recognisable adventure reality brands.

Since its relaunch, two seasons have aired, both delivering solid performance for Nelonen in their slot and attracting a broad commercial audience, demonstrating both strong nostalgic appeal and relevance for contemporary viewers, according to Rabbit Films. A third season is currently in post-production.

The format can be produced as a local adaptation or as a hub production in Finland’s Lapland region, making it suitable for a wide range of broadcasters and platforms, Rabbit Films said.

The distribution agreement marks the first strategic collaboration between Rabbit Films and Fremantle Finland.

The latter’s CEO, Riina Kullas, said the collaboration with Rabbit Films is part of the company’s ambition to explore new ways to maximise the international potential of locally originated formats.

Camp North joins Rabbit Films’ international slate of scalable, returnable adventure reality formats, including Over the Atlantic, Ultimate Escape and The Ultimate Expedition.

Jonathan Tuovinen, senior VP of international at Rabbit Films, said Camp North hits “a real sweet spot” in the market right now.

“Buyers are looking for returnable formats that deliver scale and visual impact, but also authentic human stories. This format does both – it combines cinematic landscapes with a clear, structured competition and constantly evolving power dynamics,” said Tuovinen.
