Prime Video’s US head Albert Cheng handed new AI-focused role in restructure

Amazon is adjusting the responsibilities of two senior executives, Albert Cheng and Jay Marine, as it aims to streamline its reporting structure and enable the tech giant to move more quickly on opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI).

Marine, who is the VP and global head of sports and advertising, is assuming oversight of Prime Video in the US, which was previously handled by Cheng.

Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, who announced the changes, said that moving the entirety of the Prime Video’s US business under Marine would “enable those teams to work faster and even more collaboratively.”

Cheng, formerly VP of Prime Video in the US, is assuming a new position leading Amazon’s investments in “creating new tools for our creative partners that harness the power of AI.”

In addition to leading the tech team for Amazon MGM Studios, Cheng will also now “lead content creation and focus on empowering the very best filmmakers and showrunners to do their most innovative work in AI and, in doing so, create even more high-quality content for customers.”

Marine and Cheng will be moving into their new positions in the coming weeks, with more details about the revised team structures set to be announced.

Hopkins added that the new structure is “clearly an opportunity for us to push boundaries in an area that takes advantage of the scale and technological leadership of Amazon” and that he sees the “potential to deliver an entirely new kind of storytelling to customers.”
