Prime Video’s latest football ride-along follows Birmingham City, Steven Knight attached

Steven Knight in the as-yet-untitled docuseries

Amazon’s Prime Video has expanded its catalogue of football club ‘ride-along’ docs by ordering a series following English club Birmingham City, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight exec producing.

Birmingham went through a high-profile takeover by Tom Wagner, co-founder and co-managing member of Knighthead Capital Management, and American football legend Tom Brady in the simmer of 2023 but suffered an unlikely relegation to the third tier of English football that season.

Prime Video will now follow the club’s attempt to win promotion back to the Championship in 2024/25, which they ultimately secured this week with a win away at Peterborough United.

Camera crews have been embedded throughout the season and the as-yet-untitled doc will launch on Prime Video this summer.

As well as Knight – the man behind hit Birmingham-set period drama Peaky Blinders and a lifelong Blues fan – the show will be exec produced by Knighthead’s Matt Alvarez (Straight Outta Compton, Are We There Yet?), who is a Birmingham City FC board member.

It will be produced by Religion of Sports (Rodgers: Enigma, In the Arena: Serena Williams, Kobe Bryant’s Muse) and Whisper (Sven, Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes). The project was conceived by Brady and Religion of Sports co-founder Gotham Chopra, following Brady joining as minority owner of Birmingham City in 2023.

The series joins Prime Video’s collection of sports documentaries and docuseries including All or Nothing: Arsenal; Doubters to Believers – Liverpool FC: Klopp’s Era; 99; Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes; We Are Newcastle United; Take Us Home: Leeds United; and When Eagles Dare.
