Prime Video taps big names for Irish version of LOL: Last One Laughing

LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland features a number of Irish comics

Amazon’s Prime Video is continuing the expansion of its comedy variety format LOL: Last One Laughing with another European adaptation, this time in Ireland, to be fronted by veteran talkshow host Graham Norton.

LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland will feature an array of Irish comedic talent, including Aisling Bea, Amy Huberman, Catherine Bohart, David McSavage, Deirdre O’Kane, Emma Doran, Jason Byrne, Martin Angolo, Paul Tylak and Tony Cantwell.

The format challenges comedians to see who can keep a straight face while trying to make their opponents laugh in a competition with a €50,000 (US$54,000) cash prize for charity.

Produced by Kite Entertainment, the series will launch in 2024. The format originated in Japan and has been remade in Europe in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Sweden.

There have also been remakes in Mexico, Australia, India, Canada, Colombia and Brazil, while Prime Video recently announced LOL: Last One Laughing South Africa will be its first South African original, hosted by Trevor Noah.

The executive producers are Darren Smith (Gogglebox Ireland) and Mairéad Whelan (Big Life Fix), while the series producer is David Noble (Gogglebox Ireland). Stephen Bradley (The Deirdre O’Kane Show) is the story producer and the series is directed by Danny Tate (LOL: Last One Laughing Canada).

Prime Video’s slate of originals in the UK and Ireland also includes 007’s Road to a Million, How to Date Billy Walsh, Gassed Up, The Greatest Show Never Made, Fake Sheikh, Wilderness and Fifteen-Love.
