Prime Video partners David Weil, Glen Powell on Texas crime thriller Calamities

Amazon-owned Prime Video has given a straight-to-series order to a crime thriller created by David Weil (Hunters) and executive produced by actor Glen Powell.

Set in quiet border town in Texas, Calamities follows a chain of events after a drug deal goes wrong.

The series will be written by Weil, who also serves as showrunner, execut producer and director.

Weil previously created and led Nazi-hunting drama Hunters, which starred Al Pacino and Logan Lerman, for Prime Video and worked on Citadel and its 2021 limited series Solos.

As well as Weil and Powell, Natalie Laine Williams will exec produce via Please Enjoy, while Dan Cohen exec produces for Barnstorm. Ryan Schwartz serves as co-exec producer. The show will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios, which is also producing Tyrant, Weil’s first feature film as writer-director.
