Prime Video greenlights second Bosch spin-off from Michael Connelly, Fabel

Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood

Prime Video is expanding its police procedural franchise Bosch by giving the green light to a new spin-off series.

The Amazon-owned streamer handed a 10-episode order to an as-yet untitled project focused on detective Renée Ballard, as she is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division, a poorly funded unit with the city’s largest case load. Ballard was mentored by the franchise’s lead character, Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver.

Michael Connelly, who wrote the books upon which Bosch and its spin-offs are based, executive produces the new series under his Hieronymus Pictures banner, alongside Fabel Entertainment.

Michael Alaimo (The Closer, The Man Who Fell To Earth) and Kendall Sherwood (Major Crimes, Your Honor) will both serve as showrunners and executive producers. Other exec producers include Connelly and Fabel Entertainment’s Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate. Co-executive producers are Jasmine Russ, Jamie Boscardin Martin, Trey Batchelor and Theresa Snider.

The original incarnation of Bosch ran for seven seasons between 2014 and 2021, and Prime Video subsequently greenlit the first spin-off series Bosch: Legacy, which premiered in 2022.

In February, Amazon first revealed that it was developing two additional spin-offs, the Renée Ballard series and another following Harry Bosch’s former partner, Detective Jerry Edgar, as he is tapped for a high-stakes undercover FBI mission.
