The series is slated to launch across Prime Video in Australia, New Zealand and Canada with Sony Pictures Television handling global distribution.

Executive produced by Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner from Australia’s Curio Pictures, the series has commenced production in New South Wales with acclaimed film director Justin Kurzel (Nitram, Macbeth, Shantaram, Assassin’s Creed) and writer Shaun Grant, who both also serve as exec producers, with Alexandra Taussig producing.

The period piece, which is backdropped by World War II, follows a soldier’s experiences as a prisoner of war, encompassing an ill-fated love affair and his later life as a surgeon and decorated war hero.

The cast is led by Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Priscilla, Saltbush) who returns to Australia for filming with cast members including Simon Baker (The Mentalist), Ciarán Hinds (Belfast)and Heather Mitchell (Love Me). Screen Australia has invested principal production funding in tandem with Screen NSW’s Made in NSW and PDV Funds.

“With talents like Jacob Elordi, Ciarán Hinds and Odessa Young at the helm, The Narrow Road to the Deep North promises to be a cinematic, visceral and undeniable contemporary love story, which explores the power of mateship and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity,” said Amazon MGM Studios senior development executive, Sarah Christie.

Since entering the Australian market in 2019, Prime Video has commissioned 27 Australian original series.
