Prime Video checks into Hazbin Hotel with Vivienne Medrano, A24, Bento Box

Hazbin Hotel has amassed almost 90 million views on YouTube

Global streamer Prime Video has given a two-season order to Hazbin Hotel, an adult animated musical comedy from Vivienne Medrano, A24 and Fox Entertainment-owned animation studio Bento Box Entertainment.

The project is based on Medrano’s 30-minute animated pilot of the same name, which was released on YouTube in 2019. To date, the video has amassed almost 90 million views, while Medrano’s YouTube channel Vivziepop has garnered more than 8.4 million subscribers and over one billion total views.

The eight-episode first season of Hazbin Hotel will debut internationally on the Amazon-owned streamer in January 2024.

The series follows the Princess of Hell as she pursues the seemingly unattainable goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom.

Medrano serves as exec producer and director on all episodes of the show. Joel Kuwahara and Dana Tafoya-Cameron are exec producers for A24. In addition, former Bento Box CEO and co-founder Scott Greenberg, who exited the company earlier this year, is an exec producer on season one.

Prime Video and New York-based A24 are also teaming on another adult animated series, #1 Happy Family USA, co-created by Ramy Youssef. Last year, Prime Video handed a two-season order to the project, which explores the experiences of a Muslim-American family that must learn how to code-switch as they navigate life in the early 2000s.
