Prime Video alum María José Rodríguez named MD at Spain’s Globomedia

Former Prime Video executive María José Rodríguez has been appointed managing director of The Mediapro Studio-owned Spanish produco Globomedia (Locked Up).

Starting her new role on September 1, she will report directly to Laura Fernández Espeso, CEO of The Mediapro Studio.

Rodríguez is tasked with spearheading the content creation and production strategy at Globomedia.

She joins from Prime Video, where she served as head of Spanish originals for almost four years. There she launched shows such as Culpa Mía, Reina Roja, Los Farad and OT.

Prior to that, Rodríguez had a five-year tenure at streamer Movistar+, first in the role of head of unscripted production before being upped to head of content of the #O channel and unscripted production.

At Movistar she oversaw content such as La Resistencia, Late Motiv, Radio Gaga and Tabú de Jon Sistiaga.

Rodriguez also directed original production at Discovery Max, working on Amazonas Clandestino, El Mago Pop, and Frank de la Jungla.

At Globomedia, she joins a prodco which makes scripted titles like Paraíso, Nasdrovia, Estoy Vivo and The Boarding School, alongside formats such as The Musical of your Life.
