Prime Video acquires Globo telenovela Avenida Brasil for Latin America

Avenida Brasil debuted on Globo in 2012

CONTENT AMERICAS: Brazilian media giant Globo has struck a deal with Amazon’s Prime Video to bring telenovela Avenida Brasil to all Latin American countries outside Brazil.

The show, which is already available to Prime Video users elsewhere, remains one of the most licensed pieces of content in Globo’s history, with sales in more than 140 territories, in addition to a local adaptation in Turkey.

“We are very happy with the start of this partnership. Avenida Brasil, one of our most recognised telenovelas on the international market, will now have even more visibility with Prime Video,” said Angela Colla, Globo’s director of international business and coproductions.

“It will be an opportunity for the public to revisit and reminisce in this storyline and these characters, and also to introduce the telenovela to a new audience.”

The deal between Globo and Prime Video was announced here at C21’s Content Americas in Miami.

Avenida Brasil was created by João Emanuel Carneiro and premiered on Globo in 2012. It was nominated for an international Emmy for best telenovela in 2013.

The show centres on a young orphan, played by Débora Falabella, on a quest for justice, after she has her childhood ruined by her stepmother, played by Adriana Esteves. The cast also includes Murilo Benício, Cauã Reymond, Marcos Caruso and Eliane Giardini.
