Preacher explores Amazon

Amazon Prime Video is to show the forthcoming TV series Preacher in the UK, Austria, Germany and Japan following a deal with Sony Pictures Television (SPT).

Subscribers to the US SVoD service can view the dark comedy-drama from May 23, with subsequent episodes launching on Mondays from June 6 – a day after they premiere on cablenet AMC.

SPT is behind the multi-territory deal for the show, which has also been sold to Viaplay across the Nordics, OSN across the Middle East and D-Smart in Turkey.

Preacher is exec produced by Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (This is the End).

It focuses on the life of a previously devout Texan preacher and his vampire ex-girlfriend who attempt to track down God after discovering he has left heaven.

The show is based on the 1990s Vertigo comic series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, with Rogen and Goldberg exec producing alongside Catlin, who will also act as showrunner.

Preacher joins an Amazon line-up that includes The Man in the High Castle, Transparent, Mr Robot, Fear The Walking Dead and the forthcoming The Grand Tour, front by former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
