Pocoyo creator Zinkia takes Canary Islands’ KOYI Talent in animation studio deal

Pocoyo is among the content created by Zinkia

Zinkia, the Spanish prodco behind kids’ series Pocoyo, has bought Gran Canaria animation studio KOYI Talent, acquiring 100% of its business.

The deal means Zinkia now has three new brands in its catalogue – Bumpy: The Bear, Ghost Bros and projects surrounding the IP of animated series Bugsted. Zinkia also plans to use KOYI’s Gran Canaria studio space for third-party hire.

Bumpy: The Bear (52×7’) is due to start production in Spring 2022, subject to the participation of Spanish pubcaster TVE.

Ghost Bros is aimed at audiences aged 6-8 and is created by producers Yellow Kingdom and WeDoo Studio. The series follows the adventures of two orphans adopted by a dysfunctional family whose main purpose is to make everyone happy, – because, otherwise, they will have to return to the place they escaped from.

Elsewhere at Zinkia, the creators of Pocoyo are working on a new title they will unveil next February at the industry event Kidscreen Summit. The show has been airing since 2005 and has its own spin-off, Pocoyo Planet.

Alberto Delgado, CEO of Zinkia said: “The acquisition of KOYI Talent enables Zinkia to continue with its expansion and growth plans, consolidating our presence in the Canary Islands and broadening our production business area through the possibility of providing international services. At the same time, we are diversifying our assets by incorporating new properties into our catalogue, which will facilitate significant growth in coming years.”
