David Tennant and Billie Piper in Doctor Who

MIPCOM: ViacomCBS-owned AVoD service Pluto TV is set to launch three new channels – including one dedicated to Doctor Who – in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and Spain following a deal with BBC Studios.

On the Doctor Who channel in France, the first 10 seasons of the sci-fi drama will be available along with all Christmas specials. Spain will have the first nine seasons and all Christmas specials, while German-speaking Austria (GSA) will get all episodes that aired between 1980 and 1990.

The other two new channels are BBC Travel, which will be available in GSA, and BBC Drama, which can be viewed in GSA, France and Spain. The latter channel features BBC Studios dramas including Call the Midwife, War & Peace, Great Expectations and The Musketeers.

Olivier Jollet, senior VP and general manager of Pluto TV, said: “This new partnership with BBC allows Pluto TV to super-serve our European audiences with hundreds of hours of premium BBC drama content that fans know and love, all for free. Pluto TV and its continuously expanding content offering is a key component of ViacomCBS’s diversified global streaming ecosystem.”

The BBC channel launches, announced on the first day of Mipcom in Cannes, come in advance of Pluto TV’s Italian launch, which is scheduled for October 28.
