Pixcom picks development director

Canadian indie Pixcom Productions has hired an experienced writer, producer and director as its director of development for English TV.

Charlie Smith is joining the Montreal-based firm after 12 years working in broadcast television on shows including Canada’s Dragons’ Den, Canadian Idol and The Big Decision.

Pixcom is known for its License to Drill and Dangerous Flights series for Discovery Channel Canada, as well as Restoration Garage and Bomb Hunters, which air on History. The company also produces drama, kids’ TV, documentary and factual programming for French Canada.

Smith will be based mainly in Toronto and report to Nicola Merola, president of Pixcom Productions.
