Peacock revives USA Network comedy-drama Monk with reunion movie

The cast and creative team of Monk are set to reunite after US streamer Peacock ordered a movie based on the long-running USA Network comedy-drama.

Tony Shalhoub

The announcement of the movie, titled Mr Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie Hails, comes more than 13 years after the original version of the show wrapped its eight-season run.

Original cast members including Tony Shalhoub, Ted Levine, Traylor Howard, Jason Gray-Stanford, Melora Hardin and Hector Elizondo are all returning for the reunion film, in addition to members of the original creative team such as creator, exec producer and writer Andy Breckman, exec producer David Hoberman and exec producer and director Randy Zisk.

UCP, a division within Universal Studio Group, is the studio on the project.

The original version of the show followed a brilliant San Francisco-based detective, Adrian Monk (played by Shalhoub), with an obsessive-compulsive disorder. The movie will see Monk return to solve one last case involving his beloved stepdaughter Molly, who is a journalist preparing to get married.

In the US, all eight seasons (125 episodes) of the show are carried on Peacock. Debuting in 2002, Monk won eight Emmys and one Golden Globe during its run, while Shalhoub was nominated for best actor in a comedy at the Emmys for eight consecutive years, winning in 2003, 2005 and 2006.
