US streamer Peacock has greenlit a new American version of the long-running UK survival format I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.

The adaptation, titled simply Get Me Out of Here (working title), comes from ITV America, which also produces the American version of Love Island for the Comcast-owned streamer.

Co-hosted by Maura Higgins and Rob Rausch, the series is described as an “updated and amped-up take on” the format, which debuted on UK broadcaster ITV in 2002. It will start next year.

The US version is set in the jungle and sees celebrities paired with a non-famous family member or friend. The teams must then survive physical and psychological challenges to outlast the competition and claim a US$100,000 grand prize.

ITV America’s David George, David Eilenberg and Jordana Hochman are executive producing Get Me Out of Here. The format is created by Lifted Entertainment and distributed by ITV Studios.

I’m a Celebrity… has been adapted on two other occasions in the US. ABC commissioned a version of the format that ran for one season in 2003, before NBC aired a second version in 2009 that also ran for just one season.

In 2021, Blumhouse Television, which at the time was partly owned by ITV Studios, and ITV America, began pitching a new US version of the show but it did not move ahead at a network.

Rausch appeared in the fifth and sixth seasons of Love Island USA before also featuring in the fourth instalment of Peacock’s US version of The Traitors. Irish TV personality Maura Higgins rose to prominence during her appearance in season five of Love Island UK, before becoming a presenter on Love Island USA and appearing in several other unscripted series including The Traitors US and Dancing with the Stars.
