Peacock finds Crypt’s Girl in the Woods

The Door in the Woods is based on Crypt’s short film

NBCUniversal-owned US streamer Peacock has ordered a supernatural drama for young adults from Blumhouse Productions-backed Crypt TV.

Girl in the Woods is based on Crypt’s 2018 short film The Door in the Woods, written and directed by Joey Greene, and its 2020 sequel The Girl in the Woods, written by David Calbert, Van Nguyen and directed by Roxine Helberg.

The eight-episode series is set in the Pacific North-West and follows a girl’s escape from her mysterious, cult-like colony that guards the world from monsters hidden behind a secret door within the woods.

Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones) will direct the first four episodes, including the pilot. Jacob Chase (Come Play) is set to direct the last four episodes and produce. Casey Modderno (The Birch) will serve as head writer.

Crypt TV CEO Jack Davis and Darren Brandl will serve as executive producers alongside co-executive producers Modderno, Ritter, Jeremy Elliott and Jasmine Johnson. Joey Greene and Cameron Fuller will coproduce.

“As a huge fan of horror and all things coming-of-age, this is one of the most exciting pilot scripts I’ve gotten my hands on. I fell in love with the characters, the writing, the setting and the themes the second I read it,” said Ritter, who described the show as a “badass female-driven monster hunting series.”

Launched in 2015, Crypt was co-founded by Davis and filmmaker Eli Roth with Get Out and Paranormal Activity producer Blumhouse Productions as an investor and key strategic partner.
