Paul Robinson to step down as president of Kartoon Channel Worldwide

Paul Robinson is leaving his role as president of Kartoon Channel Worldwide, part of kids’ content company Kartoon Studios, in mid-June.

Paul Robinson

London-based Robinson joined Kartoon Studios in December 2021 and has been responsible for expanding Kartoon Channel around the world, leading the team that has launched 24/7 pay TV channels, FAST channels, AVoD and SVoD platforms and branded blocks in almost 70 countries.

Robinson told C21 he intends to move away from channels and distribution to focus on the creative side of kids’ content, perhaps expanding beyond straight animation into gaming.

One of the exec’s achievements at Kartoon has been the launch of competition series Kidaverse Roblox Rumble, which sees groups of kids compete against each other in a series of games on social gaming platform Roblox.

Prior to joining Kartoon, Robinson was director of media consultancy Creative Media Partners for 17 years. During that time, he also held roles at companies including Your Family Entertainment, which was bought by Kartoon Studios in 2021 and where he was exec VP from 2013 to 2016.

From 1998 to 2004, Robinson was senior VP at The Walt Disney Co and MD of Walt Disney Television International, before co-founding and becoming CEO of NBCUniversal (NBCU)’s now-defunct children’s channel KidsCo from 2005 until 2011.

Earlier in his career, Robinson was head of strategy at BBC Network Radio from 1993 to 1996 and MD of TalkSport’s TalkRadio for the following two years.

Robinson said: “I am proud of the work I have done with Kartoon Studios over the last three years and with the Kartoon Channel in a strong position, I feel now is the right time to step away and try something new.

“Having built and grown several globally internationally recognised kids brands through my time at Disney, NBCU’s KidsCo and now Kartoon, this is the optimal time to take on new challenges and opportunities.”
