Passion said the appointment is part of plans to expand its longform animation department, spearheaded by Pixar veteran and head of production David Park and exec producer Debbie Crosscup.

In her new role, Cortese will focus on creating and developing IP alongside Passion’s in-house directors and creative team, as well as acquiring outside IP before taking the projects to the wider market for distribution.

She joins ahead of this year’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival, having led development for the two Passion projects selected for MIFA pitches in the TV series and specials category: Love (3×30’) and Greetings from the Apocalypse (8×30’). Both series are aimed at adults and young adults.

Prior to joining Passion, Cortese was head of development at Locksmith Animation, where she worked on Disney’s film Ron’s Gone Wrong and Netflix’s upcoming Richard Curtis feature That Christmas.

Cortese previously had a first-look deal with Brian Robbins’ Awesomeness Films and oversaw the Divergent film franchise at Red Wagon Entertainment. She started her career as VP of Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road Pictures, leading films such as Paranormal Activity and The Dark Tower.
