Paramount+ has commissioned five factual projects from UK producers ahead of the streamer’s launch in the UK and Ireland tomorrow.

The news comes after Paramount+ revealed plans yesterday to commission 150 international originals by 2025.

The first factual series, Hot Yachts, is set in South Florida, the centre of the luxury yacht world, where an elite group of super-competitive, party-loving yacht brokers ruthlessly compete to sell everything from US$1m motor launches to US$100m super yachts to a glittering array of wealthy buyers.

The 6×60’ series is produced by Curve Media, whose founders and joint CEOs Rob Carey and Camilla Lewis exec produce with head of programmes Charlie Bunce.

From Glasgow-based Two Rivers Media in association with All3Media is Monster: The Mystery of Loch Ness (3×60’), which provides a forensic examination of the evidence surrounding the existence of the legendary Loch Ness Monster and first-hand accounts from those who claim to have seen, encountered and hunted the beast.

Dougray Scott narrates the series, which is exec produced by Two Rivers Media’s head of factual Mick McAvoy.

The third project, Simple Minds: Once Upon a Time (w/t), is a 1×75’ doc from Lonesome Pine Productions about one of Scotland’s biggest musical exports: Simple Minds. The doc features unseen archive footage and access to original members Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill.

From Firecracker Scotland is Strip, a 6×60’ series that takes viewers into the world of strippers working the iconic Vegas Strip, following nine women all determined to be the best in the business. Exec producing are Firecracker’s creative director Elspeth O’Hare and exec producer Jennifer Gilroy. Passion Distribution is distributing.

The final series in Paramount+’s UK and Ireland factual slate is The Premiership: Rise of the Billionaires (w/t), a coming-of-age story about the English Premier League, told by its stars. The 4×60’ series is coproduced by Story Films, David Beckham’s Studio 99 and All3Media International.

Exec producing for Story Films are co-founder Peter Beard and Adam Hopkins. Exec producing for Studio 99 are MD Nicola Howson and co-founder David Gardner. All3Media International handles global sales.

Ben Frow, chief content officer for Paramount UK, said: “Our mission is to make Paramount+ the leading destination for unmissable television in collaboration with the UK’s storytelling talent. These new commissions will join an abundance of original content on the service, as well as the pick of Paramount’s vast catalogue to create a compelling offering for viewers in the UK and Ireland.”
