Oz, NZ nets get Starstruck

Starstruck comes from Rose Matafeo

Broadcasters in Australia and New Zealand have picked up Starstruck, a new six-part comedy commissioned by the UK’s BBC3 and soon-to-launch US streamer HBO Max.

ABC in Australia and TVNZ will both air the series after securing the rights from Avalon Television, which is producing and distributing the show.

Written, created by and starring Rose Matafeo, Starstruck will follow 20-something Rose (Matafeo), a millennial in London juggling two dead-end jobs and navigating the awkward morning-after-the-night-before when she discovers the complications of sleeping with a film star.

Isobel Hughes, Avalon’s director of distribution, said: “It is brilliant to know audiences across the globe will be engaging with Starstruck and Rose Matafeo’s refreshing millennial voice.”

Matafeo is a comedian and actor who won Best Comedy Show at the prestigious Edinburgh Comedy Awards last year for her solo show Horndog. She has also performed at the New Zealand International Comedy Festival and the Melbourne Comedy Festival.

Starstruck is executive produced by Matafeo, Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner and Rob Aslett.
