Orphan Black taken in by US net

Canadian sci-fi adventure drama Orphan Black has found a home in the US, two weeks after the project was first announced.

The 10-hour series has been picked up by BBC America, which will schedule it as part of the cable channel’s Supernatural Saturdays block.

The story follows a streetwise orphan who, after witnessing a murder, discovers she is a clone.

Orphan Black was originally commissioned by Bell Media-owned Space and will be produced by Temple Street Productions.

It was co-created by Graeme Manson (Flashpoint) and John Fawcett (Spartacus). Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier exec produce, with Manson also writing and Fawcett directing.

Filming is due to begin in Toronto this fall. BBC Worldwide is handling international distribution.

Another original series coming to BBC America is Copper, a police drama set in 1860s New York, which will debut in August.
