Oliver races chefs for BBC America

BBC America has greenlit a new cookery show to be executive produced by British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

Chef Race: UK vs US (10×60′) will be made by Oliver’s UK prodco, Fresh One, and hosted by Claire Robinson (5 Ingredient Fix).

The unscripted series features 16 chefs – eight Brits versus eight Americans – racing from Los Angeles to New York. Along the way they must put their culinary skills to the test, cooking with minimal resources and without money, to impress chef Richard Corrigan (Masterchef) and win the US$100,000 prize.

“This series is the first time that anyone has really dug deep into what it takes to be successful and it’s going to take an incredible individual to win it,” said Oliver.

BBCWW America channels general manager Perry Simon added: “Chef Race: UK vs US celebrates great chefs from both sides of the pond, bringing their best cooking and entrepreneurial skills to bear in a creative format that showcases the diversity of America.”

Aside from Oliver, exec producers for Fresh One are Amy Chacon (The Amazing Race), Stef Wagstaffe (Undercover Boss), Roy Ackerman (Reagan, Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution), Sebastian Grant (Lilly Allen and Friends) and Jo Ralling (Jamie’s American Road Trip).
