Objective Media builds quiz team

Ed de Burgh and Ben Shephard

MIPCOM: Objective Media Group (OMG) in the UK is launching a label dedicated to quiz and gameshow formats, led by producer Ed de Burgh and presenter Ben Shepherd.

The All3Media-backed producer and distributor said the as-yet-untitled outfit will become a bespoke home for quiz and game ideas within OMG, using de Burgh and Shepherd’s 20 years of collective experience in the genre.

De Burgh, a former Channel 4 commissioning editor, has overseen the network’s The Big Fat Quiz of the Year and Celebrity 15 to 1, while he is also executive producer of ITV’s 5 Gold Rings. He produced shows such as The Million Pound Drop Live (Channel 4), Pointless and its celebrity spin-off (BBC1) and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway (ITV).

In front of the camera, Shepherd has hosted Tipping Point, Tipping Point: Lucky Stars, Good Morning Britain, This Morning, Ninja Warrior UK and The Krypton Factor, all for ITV. On the BBC, he presented The National Lottery: 1 vs 100.

OMG CEO Layla Smith and commercial director Holly Pye said: “The idea of bringing together the two brilliant quiz and game minds of Ed and Ben was impossible to resist. They are perfectly placed to develop and deliver shows not only for the UK market, but that also have the potential to travel, and we are excited to see what they come up with.”

OMG is currently home to six labels and three production companies, with series including Bear’s Mission With…, Flirty Dancing, GameFace, Gordon, Gino & Fred’s Road Trip, The Interrogation of Tony Martin, The Undateables, Tricks of the Restaurant Trade and Year of the Rabbit.

In August, OMG partnered with BBC execs Pam Cavannagh and Sympna Jackson to create a new Manchester-based label as part of OMG North.

It has also started an unscripted production label with Jonny Meenagh, the former head of development at Shine TV.
