NZFC places three emerging Kiwi screen practitioners in global roles via new initiative

L-R: Litia Tuiburelevu, Eva Trebilco and Joye Wong

The New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) has selected three local screen practitioners for its International Placement Initiative with Protagonist Pictures, StudioCanal and Good Chaos.

Litia Tuiburelevu, who has worked across scripted, documentary and legal advisory roles, will join the acquisitions and development team at Protagonist Pictures in London.

Joyce Wong, producer and founder of One7 Pictures and an advocate for female-focused, Asian-led narratives, has been placed with Good Chaos in London.

Finally, the NZ arm of StudioCanal has taken on emerging producer Eva Trebilco.

The initiative was launched by the agency in May and is designed for emerging to mid-career NZ-based writers, directors and producers to develop overseas industry networks, learn and refine filmmaking skills, and gain global work experience.

NZFC funding head Ainsley Gardiner said the industry response was impressive and ambitious.

“It is a strong indicator our local creatives have a keen ambition to broaden their skills and further develop their international contacts. Seeing both emerging and established practitioners secure places with globally respected companies is incredibly encouraging. It tells me the knowledge and experience they’ll gain will ripple outward, strengthening our sector,” Gardiner said.
