Nutopia’s Jesus: Crown of Thorns gets two further seasons at Fox Nation

Jesus: Crown of Thorns is directed by Hereward Pelling

Fox Nation in the US is getting two more seasons of Nutopia-produced drama series Jesus: Crown of Thorns.

A Fox Nation original, Jesus: Crown of Thorns reimagines the story of Jesus of Nazareth. Seasons two and three of the series will follow on from the first season, continuing the story of Jesus’ life until crucifixion and resurrection.

In addition to the new seasons, several international broadcasters and platforms have acquired the series from distributor All3Media International.

Hearst Networks has picked up the pan-territory rights for Africa, while RTL has acquired it for Germany, Austria and German-speaking Lichtenstein, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

Specialist documentary channel DOX TV has signed rights for various Balkan territories including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia Kosovo and Slovenia.

SVT in Sweden, RTP in Portugal, DR in Denmark and Michal Winnicki Entertainment in Poland have also signed rights, while Now TV has secured digital rights for Hong Kong and Macau.

Jesus: Crown of Thorns is directed by Hereward Pelling (The Lost Pirate Kingdom). Alex Dwiar is showrunner and Nutopia’s founder and CEO Jane Root exec produces with Ben Goold.

It comes amid an increase in faith-based content among US networks and streamers, which C21 recently explored alongside Hana Smith at Ampere Analysis ahead of this month’s LA Screenings.
