North American OTT ‘to double revenue’

OTT TV and video revenues by source (US$m)

OTT TV and movie revenue in North America in 2026 will be almost twice the figure recorded in 2020, according to a report by UK firm Digital TV Research.

The report, titled North America OTT TV & Video Forecasts, predicts that revenue will increase to US$94bn in 2026 from US$49bn in 2020.

The US makes up the bulk of revenue from OTT services and will see a rise to US$88bn in 2026 from US$42bn in 2020. Revenue in Canada will double to US$5.4bn, according to the analysis.

The biggest source of revenue in the OTT space is SVoD services, whose revenue is expected to rise from US$32bn in 2020 to US$40bn in 2021 and US$54bn in 2026.

Revenue from AVoD services, meanwhile, will increase from US$10bn in 2020 to US$13bn in 2021 and US$32bn in 2026, Digital TV Research said.

Contributing a smaller proportion of revenue, download-to-own services are tipped to experience a rise from US$3.1bn in 2020 to US$3.2bn in 2021 and US$3.9bn in 2026, while revenue from rental services will rise from US$2.5bn in 2020 to US$2.6bn in 2021 and US$2.8bn in 2026.
