Noah Media Group, LeBron’s Uninterrupted get Carl Lewis doc up and running

Carl Lewis first won Olympic gold in 1984

UK prodco Noah Media Group (NMG) is using its multimillion-dollar content fund to make a feature documentary on sporting and cultural icon Carl Lewis, with LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s Uninterrupted also on board.

Currently in production, the as-yet-untitled project will explore the life of the former track and field champion, with exclusive access to his family, closest friends and an unseen archive.

It will be executive produced by athlete-empowerment brand Uninterrupted, which was founded by basketball star James and his regular business partner Carter. In the doc, Lewis, now a coach and politically engaged, will confront issues around the future of the US.

In a record-breaking career spanning 18 years, Lewis won nine Olympic gold medals in track and field and was voted Sportsman of the Century by the International Olympic Committee and Olympian of the Century by Sports Illustrated.

The film will be co-directed by NMG co-founder Gabriel Clarke (Finding Jack Charlton) and Chris Hay (All Around). James, Carter, Jamal Henderson and Philip Byron will executive produce for Uninterrupted.

Cinetic Media will be representing the Carl Lewis film for worldwide sales, alongside NMG’s international sales team.

It is one of four projects NMG will be developing, financing and producing as part of its inaugural multimillion-dollar content fund over the coming months. This follows the launch of NMG’s 14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible last year, which the company said has gone on to become one of Netflix’s most globally successful documentaries.

NMG said it intends to double down on its efforts to bring “extraordinary stories of human endeavour” to global audiences through the content fund. Three of the four films are already in production and NMG is looking for a fourth.

Also in production at NMG are an access-all-areas documentary on British boxing champion Ricky Hatton and the soon-to-be-released feature-length documentary Villeneuve Pironi, which details the intense friendship and tragic rivalry between Formula One legends Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi, in partnership with Sky and NBCUniversal.
