Nippon TV to showcase in-house Gyokuro Studio unscripted formats at Mipcom

Nippon TV’s upcoming gameshow Mega Catch

Japanese broadcaster Nippon TV will launch three new unscripted formats at Mipcom next month, two of which are the debut projects from new in-house production outfit Gyokuro Studio.

Headed by Kenichiro Akiyama, the Tokyo-based studio was rolled out in June with plans to develop 10 unscripted titles each year. The first fruits of the company’s development work are Mega Catch and Secret Little Assistant.

Mega Catch is described as an action-packed gameshow where players must catch massive flying objects to claim cash prizes.

Secret Little Assistant, meanwhile, is a kids’ reality format in which children secretly sneak into their parents’ workplaces and try to help out without getting caught. It is inspired by Nippon TV’s much-travelled family-friendly format Old Enough!

Nippon will also unveil a third project, Big Bad Bluff, in Cannes. The reality gameshow format sees classic fairy tales such as The Three Little Pigs turned into games, with contestants bluffing their way to prize money.

The formats will be showcased during Mipcom at Nippon’s Treasure Box Japan event, at 16.00 on Monday October 13 at Hi5 Studio.

Sayaka Aoki, head of international sales, content business and distribution at Nippon TV, said: “While each of our projects has a unique origin, they all have the potential to resonate with an international audience.

“Whether you’re looking for a thrilling game that tests your reflexes, a heart-warming reality show about the bond between parents and kids, or a dive into the world of twisted fairy tales, we are ready to collaborate and bring a fresh viewing experience to audiences worldwide.”
