Nippon TV plots Escape to Series Mania with thriller and romance formats

Escape centres on a kidnapped heiress

Japanese broadcasting giant Nippon TV will unveil two new scripted formats at Series Mania this month: thriller series The Right to Judge and romantic suspense drama Escape.

The Right to Judge (10×60’) follows former schoolmates who reunite 22 years after graduation to unearth a time capsule, only to find a yearbook where the faces of a circle of bullies have been violently blacked out.

When members of the group begin to die, a former bully teams up with a journalist to find the killer. It stars Shotaro Mamiya and Yuko Araki.

Escape (10×60’) is said to be a high-octane suspense story following an heiress is who is kidnapped on her 20th birthday but chooses to flee with her captor rather than return to her controlling father. It stars Hiyori Sakurada and Hayato Sano.

Exhibiting at Series Mania for the fifth consecutive year, Nippon TV’s delegation will include Shinji Enari, head of studio strategy, and Masanori Kobayashi, head of global strategy headquarters.

Enari said: “Nippon TV has a proven track record of bringing dynamic stories to global audiences through scripted formats and coproductions. Building on the success of award-winning titles like Mother, we are proud to introduce the new formats, The Right to Judge and Escape.”
