Nine scores Premier League and FA Cup rights deal for streamer Stan Sport

Australia’s Nine Entertainment has secured the multi-million-dollar exclusive broadcasting rights to the English Premier League (EPL) and FA Cup via a deal with former Australian rights holder Optus Sport and the Premier League.

Stan Sport will stream the 2025/26 EPL season live and on-demand in 4K, a first for Aussie audiences.

The multi-season agreement also means Japan’s J League and the National Women’s Soccer League in the US will be added to Stan Sport’s growing portfolio.

The deal also signals the end of sports broadcasting for telecoms company Optus, after it announced last year its sport platform was shutting down and job losses were anticipated.

Nine has yet to confirm how much it has paid Optus Sport for the rights, but local media analysts suggest it involves an initial sum of A$20m (US$13.8m), with additional payments to be made during the Premier League rights cycle.

Additionally, Nine has also secured rights to the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 tournament, which will be screened on digital, streaming and free-to-air platforms from July 3.

Nine CEO Matt Stanton said the rights acquisition and decision to stream on Stan “marks a step change in Nine’s digital growth strategy. The Premier League is the most-watched football league on the planet, and alongside the Emirates FA Cup, this acquisition reinforces Nine’s position as the home of sport in Australia.”
