Nick orders second SpongeBob spin-off

SpongeBob spin-off Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years

ViacomCBS-owned Nickelodeon has greenlit another animated spin-off to its long-running hit SpongeBob SquarePants.

The Patrick Star Show follows a younger version of the character from the original series living at home with his family, where he hosts his own show for the neighbourhood from his television-turned-bedroom.

Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and due to air this summer on the children’s network, the 13-episode show will see various SpongeBob SquarePants voice cast members reprise their roles, including the voice of Star, Bill Fagerbakke.

Nickelodeon’s first SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years, made its debut this week on ViacomCBS-owned streamer Paramount+, which recently launched in the US, Canada and Latin America.

SpongeBob SquarePants alumni Marc Ceccarelli, Vincent Waller and Jennie Monica are co-executive producers of the series, which comes over two decades after the original launched on Nickelodeon.

The new show has been developed for television by Claudia Spinelli, senior VP of animation development at Nickelodeon, with production overseen by Kelley Gardner, VP of current animation series at Nickelodeon.

“Nickelodeon is diving deeper into Bikini Bottom to give fans a look at our lovable young adult Patrick Star and his entire family with a sitcom only he could imagine up,” said Ramsey Naito, president at Nickelodeon Animation.

“This second original spin-off allows us to expand our reach, tell new stories and connect with our audience around the world who continue to love these characters.”
