Nick orders preschool trio, Paw Patrol spin-off, live-action Loud House series

Animated preschool series HexVet

Paramount-owned children’s channel Nickelodeon has greenlit three animated preschool series, a spin-off to hit show Paw Patrol and a live-action version of animation The Loud House.

The first of the three animated preschool series is HexVet, a CG and 2D hybrid adventure-comedy show that follows two unlikely best friends as they navigate life’s weird and wacky challenges, while apprenticing to be magical veterinarians for fantastical creatures.

Developed for TV by Nicole Dubuc, who also serves as showrunner and exec producer, HexVet is based on the Boom! Studios graphic novels of the same name written by Sam Davies. Boom! Studios and Nickelodeon Animation will produce the 20-episode series, which will premiere in the US in 2023, before rolling out internationally.

Meanwhile, Bossy Bear comes from husband-and-wife team David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim and is based on Horvath’s book series of the same name. Produced by Nickelodeon Animation, Renegade Animation and Imagine Kids & Family, Bossy Bear follows the misadventures of an overly enthusiastic extrovert bear and its thoughtful introvert turtle friend.

The 30-episode series will premiere in 2023 on Nickelodeon in the US and on Nick Jr internationally.

The third preschool series is variety show Face’s Music Party, featuring Nickelodeon’s 1990s mascot Face. Premiering on Nick Jr in the US this summer, the 13-episode music variety show combines animation and live-action, and features a reimagined Face as host and VJ.

Each episode of the series will centre around themes such as friendship, confidence, pirates and transportation, that inform the song playlist and consist of four segments: a kid-friendly music video from popular contemporary artists; remixed singalongs of iconic nursery rhymes; exploration time in Face’s music box, where kids can play and learn about an instrument, sound or musical concept; and a high energy dance-along finale, with kid dancers demonstrating moves to viewers at home.

Face first debuted on Nick Jr in 1994 and served as the animated host and mascot of Nickelodeon’s preschool programming block for over a decade. Face’s Music Party is produced by Nickelodeon Animation in partnership with Jonas & Company Inc.

The live-action version of The Loud House, meanwhile, will be produced by Nickelodeon Studios for launch on Paramount+ later this year. The as-yet-untitled 10-episode adaptation will star cast members from the live-action movie A Loud House Christmas, which premiered on Nickelodeon last November.

The Loud House animated series debuted on Nickelodeon in 2016 and was recently greenlit for a seventh season. Both the animated and live-action versions follow an 11-year-old boy with 10 sisters as he navigates everyday life while living with such a huge family.

Finally, the Paw Patrol spin-off will centre on the character Rubble and will coincide with the property’s 10th anniversary in 2023 and the release of the movie sequel Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie. Paw Patrol is produced by Spin Master Entertainment, which is currently producing the show’s 10th season.
