NHK, RUV, SBS among buyers of Autentic’s Ukraine, history and wildlife content
A Cold War of Spies looks at the battle for intelligence in the late 20th century
NHK in Japan, RUV in Iceland and SBS in Australia are among the international broadcasters to have picked up factual titles from German distributor Autentic Distribution in the wake of last week’s MipTV in Cannes.
History documentary A Cold War of Spies (4×50’), produced by Autentic, Go Button Media, Superchannel and Spiegel Geschicte, is included in a 14-hour package of programming picked up by SBS.
The Aussie broadcaster has also acquired World’s Most Punctual Train: Japan’s Shinkansen (2×45’, Wondertrunk and Autentic for NDR) and 45-minute travel special Love & Dolce Vita: History of the Amalfi Coast (Autentic).
Two docs about the Ukrainian conflict have also been sold, with Against All Odds (1×55’, OUP, Gingers Media, Illuminated Content) picked up by both NHK and RUV. The latter, along with PBS UK, has also acquired 1×52’ Mariupol. Unlost Hope (OUP Documentary and StarLight Media Group).
Wildlife titles sold include Wondrous & Wild (1×50’, Terra Mater Studios) and Miami Wild (1×50’, Day’s Edge Productions for Terra Mater Factual Studios and Smithsonian Channel) to Switzerland’s SRF, while pubcaster Radio-Canada has acquired Secrets in the Scat (1×50’, Terra Mater Studios, WGBH/Nova in association with Arte France). Ireland’s TG4 and Finland’s YLE have licensed Canada: Surviving in the Wild North (1×50’, WNET Group, Terra Mater Studios, Brian Leith Productions, Impala Pictures and River Road Films).
Spain’s RTVE has taken Once Upon a Time in Tsavo (2×52’, Terra Mater Studios) and Tasmania: Weird & Wonderful (1×52’, Terra Mater Factual Studios, Humble Bee Films, Black Devil Productions and BBC).
Viasat has picked up wildlife titles Grasslands: North America’s Hidden Wilderness (1×50’, Terra Mater Studios), White Winter – A Season on the Northern Alpine Rim (52’, Nautilusfilm) and In Search of Snow Leopards: Chasing Shadows (2×52’, Bedi Film).
Meanwhile, UK pubcaster the BBC has bought Berlin 1933: Diary of a Metropolis (3×52, Zero One), while Czech Television has picked up the same title, along with nature docs American Ocelot (1×50’) and Great Lakes Untamed (3×50’, Oak Island Films Canada, Merit Motion Pictures, Terra Mater Studios in association with TVO, Smithsonian Networks, Doclights, NDR Naturfilm, Arte France and Two Wise Monkeys Entertainment).
Sweden’s SVT has acquired Music under the Swastika: The Maestro & the Cellist of Auschwitz (1×52’/1×90’, 3B-Produktion) and Wanted: The World’s Most Dangerous Arms Dealer (1×90’, BR, Arte). The latter show was picked up by CH Media, which also bought seasons two and three of What Went Wrong (4×45/6×52’).
Finally, Asharq News acquired science doc Star Chasers of Senegal (1×50’, Terra Mater Studios) and the second season of Colossal Machines (6×45’, Go Button Media), which was also licensed by Korean broadcaster EBS.
