NGCI okays four, goes Mining

National Geographic Channels International (NGCI)’s content hub in London has greenlit four new shows, including a one-off reality series about the dangers and rewards of mining.

Get Rich or Die Mining (1×60) is being produced by RDF Media and follows world-class gem hunter Guy Clutterbuck and his team as they find themselves in risky situations searching for the world’s most precious gemstones.

NGCI has also ordered Time Scanners (6×60′) from Atlantic Productions for a February debut. The show reveals the engineering behind some of the ancient world’s most incredible creations using 3D technology.

Elsewhere on the slate is Clash of the Collectors (2×30′) from Firecracker Films, which follows individuals who have dedicated their lives to building vast, bizarre collections that are rated based on size, rarest item and how much they have sacrificed for their passion.

Planet XXL (1×60′), from Dragonfly Television and Film, is a one-off focusing on three people from different parts of the world who are all struggling with their weight.

Each show will air internationally on National Geographic Channel from early 2014.
