NFB hands veteran exec innovation role

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) has named Julie Roy as its director general for creation and innovation, effective immediately.

She takes on the role with more than 25 years of experience in the film and TV industries, having served six years as the executive producer of the NFB’s French Animation Studio, and spent more than 13 years as a producer.

Her chief mandate will be “to strengthen the NFB’s creative leadership and establish an integrated programming vision in line with the organisation’s strategic plan,” the NFB said.

Claude Joli-Coeur, government film commissioner and NFB chairperson, added: “Julie has the leadership and determination to inspire a vision of programming that encourages team synergy and the production of unique and innovative projects. She is a woman of action and conviction.”

With Roy taking on the new role, Marc Bertrand will become interim executive producer for the French Animation Studio.
