Newen Connect packs TF1’s Time to Love, four other unscripted formats for Mipcom

European distributor Newen Connect is taking five unscripted formats to Mipcom next week, led by TF1’s dating show Time to Love.

In Time to Love, five single women have access to a gigantic wheel made up of eight illuminated ‘cabins’ in which eight men are hidden. The women can’t see the men, but when it’s their turn to sit in the middle of the wheel, they can choose which men to talk to and for how long.

As time goes by, the AI in charge will ask them to decide who they’ve got chemistry with and who they haven’t. But once the women have turned someone’s cabin dark, there’s no going back.

Time To Love premiered on TF1 in late August and was the most successful launch of a reality format in France within the previous 12 months.

From prodco CCCP comes Bullshit!, a light-hearted topical quizshow that delves into the world of fake news, deepfakes, algorithms and media bubbles. Two teams compete to determine whether the story they are presented with via a wide range of media is real or not.

Grand Prix, meanwhile, is a gameshow from Izen in Spain that returned to broadcaster TVE last summer after an 11-year break. Each episode pits two towns, led by their mayors, against each other in a series of hilarious physical, cultural and sporting challenges. The winning town is awarded a cash prize to spend on local projects and good causes.

Also from Izen comes Beat the Team, a musical talent show which hunts for the next music sensation. Two teams battle it out and each contestant must do their best to stay on their team in a contest of strategy and unexpected twists.

Finally, Tracks, from Excitable Media, challenges two teams to demonstrate their musical knowledge by identifying hit songs based on their individual recording tracks alone, such as the drum or keyboard.

Andrew Sime, head of format sales at Newen Connect, will be in Cannes next week pitching the slate.
