New comedy for BBC4

BBC4 has greenlit Up The Women and Quick Cuts, two new comedy series from Baby Cow Productions and Catherine Bailey Productions.

Up The Women is being produced by Baby Cow and the BBC’s in-house comedy unit. It was written by and stars Jessica Hynes and follows the exploits of an ineffectual suffrage movement in based in a small town in 1910.

It was commissioned by BBC4 controller Richard Klein and controller of comedy commissioning Shane Allen. It is the first audience sitcom commissioned by BBC4 and will be the last filmed at BBC Television Centre in London. Mark Freeland, Henry Normal and Lindsay Hughes are the executive producers.

Quick Cuts is a sitcom crossed with a sketch show, and is set in a hairdressing salon. It is produced by Catherine Bailey Productions. It is written by Georgia Pritchett and executive produced by Kristian Smith.

Airdates for both shows have not yet been set.
