Neurodivergent ‘cosy crime’ series in works with Kimberley Nixon, Nelson Nutmeg

Kimberley Nixon, star of sitcoms such as Channel 4’s Fresh Meat, has joined forces with Tim Clague and Danny Stack of Nelson Nutmeg Pictures to write and develop a “cosy crime” series with a neurodivergent lead character.

HeadCase will star Nixon as a single mum who discovers a knack for solving crimes when she suspects her elderly next-door neighbour has been murdered. The show has been created specifically with Nixon to feature a character with a neurodivergent personality in the lead.

Nixon is an advocate for mental health causes and an ambassador for the National Autistic Society, having opened up online about her struggles with OCD.

According to the producers, HeadCase is a chance for Nixon to reflect on some of her own experiences, while combining her passion for crime fiction, after she won Celebrity Mastermind on the topic of Agatha Christie in 2015/16.

It comes after Clague and Stack directed Nixon in TV romcom movie A Christmas Cottage, which premiered on Channel 5 and Paramount+ in 2023. They have various other projects in development, including a sitcom and a comedy movie.

Case-of-the-week procedurals and ‘cosy’ detective shows continue to flourish around the world as an alternative to Nordic noir and other dark crime series that dominated TV screens prior to the pandemic.
