Netflix visits Sesame Street after classic kids’ series was dropped by HBO Max

Netflix has picked up Sesame Street

Netflix has picked up PBS Kids’ long-running children’s series Sesame Street after Warner Bros Discovery-owned HBO Max decided not to renew its streaming deal for the show last year.

Sesame Street will debut on Netflix worldwide later this year with the launch of its 56th season, as well as 90 hours of existing episodes.

The new season will feature fresh format changes and the return of segments such as Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck. Episodes will centre on one 11-minute story and will be available same day-and-date in the US on PBS stations and PBS Kids digital platforms.

Netflix also intends to develop video games for Sesame Street and spin-off series Sesame Street Mecha Builders.

Sesame Street comes from non-profit organisation Sesame Workshop. Sal Perez and Kay Wilson Stallings exec produce, while Halcyon Person (Karma’s World) joins as head writer.

HBO Max said it was dropping the classic kids title last year.
