VP of product Todd Yellin set to leave Netflix and return to feature filmmaking

Netflix’s longtime VP of product Todd Yellin is set to leave the streamer in September after nearly 17 years.

Yellin, who has led teams responsible for aspects of customer experience including pricing, payments and content discovery algorithms, is exiting the role as he returns to feature filmmaking.

Prior to joining Netflix in 2006, Yellin wrote, directed and produced the feature film Brother’s Shadow. Prior to that he was a documentary filmmaker.

“When I joined Netflix, I had just released my first feature film and planned to stay for a couple of years to right my finances before setting out on another film project,” said Yellin.

“Year after year, the allure of revolutionising how movies and TV shows are discovered and consumed, let alone having the opportunity to evolve video storytelling, became impossible to walk away from. This was a hellish decision but life is short and I want to get back to my filmmaking roots.”

Netflix chief operating officer Greg Peters added: “Todd has been at the heart of our product strategy for almost 17 years – helping to develop major innovations like our personalised recommendations and brand-defining Tudum sound.

“He’s one of the most consistently exuberant people I’ve ever worked with – a true champion of our customers, product, content and culture.”
